Venous Thromboembolism

VTE is the medical term used to describe blood clots that occur in the veins. VTE includes deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE).

Veins carry deoxygenated blood from various parts of the body back to the lungs and heart. Some VTEs can pass through the heart and become lodged in the pulmonary arteries in the lungs, interfering with lung function.
