  • Blood clots (DVT) occur in about 200,000 Canadians every year, resulting in approximately 60,000 hospitalizations
  • About 4,000 patients in BC are diagnosed with blood clots each year
  • Blood clots kill more people per year than AIDS, breast cancer and highway fatalities combined
  • The risk of DVT is higher in patients with cancer, inflammatory diseases, serious infections, post-surgery or trauma and during childbirth
