Thrombolytic Therapy

In extremely life-threatening pulmonary embolism, additional medical treatment may also be given to dissolve the clot. This is called thrombolytic therapy. Following that therapy, given in the intensive care unit, the routine treatments of LMWH, Warfarin or NOACs would also be given. This treatment is associated with a high risk of serious bleeding and should only be given to patients who are medically unstable.
